Celebrities get Paid Big Bucks to Party on New Years Eve

Frankly, this is just outrageous.

We are in one of the worst economis downfalls in history and night clubs decide to pay celebrities like 50 Cent $100,000 to come party at their venue. Seriously? Why not give that money to charity or bail out some small business. I am slightly outraged at this kinda of spending. Read the whole story here.

TMZ.com reports that:

"50 Cent -- $100,000 for a party at Pure at Caesars Palace.
LMFAO -- $75,000 to perform at a place called Silk in Temecula
Pete Wentz -- $30,000 to hang at Jet Nightclub in Vegas
Nik Richie (the guy from TheDirty.com) -- $20,000 to appear at Pure in Vegas

The cheapest of the group: Brody Jenner, who's pulling in a measly $10K to party at the Hotel Ganesvoort in Miami."

I understand the entire thought behind spending that money. If you get the big name celebrities to come, more people will come, spend money and you will end up making money, but this day in age - it's not the right time to drop that kinda money.

Maybe I am just bitter, but do you think this is kinda silly for one person to get that much money for going to a party? How do you feel about this money allowance?

Stupid news to make you giggle... and feel better about yourself

Since Sludge is out for the week, it means his "You're Stupid" segment is out for the week. I thought you would be missing the stories of stupid people doing stupid things... so here you go.

COUPLE CAUSES CHAOS AT WALMART: A Tennessee couple reportedly caused a scene at Walmart when the husband tried to steal $2,000 worth of goods and was spotted by an off duty cop. When the officer showed the shoplifter his badge, the man claimed it was fake and tried to leave the store with a cartfull of unpaid goods. The officer arrested him just before the man's wife faked a heart attack and claimed she did not know her husband. When a witness said the couple had been brousing the store together, the wife attacked the witness in the parking lot. The witness was able to stab the woman with a pocket knife. The male suspect has been charged; charges against the wife are pending. (AP)

FUNERAL HOME GIVING FREE BURIALS TO DRUNK DRIVERS: A Georgia funeral home is reportedly offering free burials to drunk drivers between now and Thursday at noon. Drivers can visit Maguire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home and sign a contract saying they plan to drink or take drugs and then drive on New Year's Eve. If the driver dies in a wreck that day, the driver will receive a free burial. The burial package includes a casket, grave, limousine and preparation of remains. The funeral home claims that the program is meant to save lives by making partygoers think twice about drinking and driving. (AP)

TEENAGERS USE PLASTIC LEG TO COMMIT ROBBERY: Three drunken teenagers reportedly armed themselves with a knife and a plastic toy leg then tried to rob a man of his groceries. When the teenagers demanded his shopping bag he gave it to them, was not hurt and ran to the police station. The teenagers have been arrested and charged with assault using a stick, a knife and a plastic toy leg and stealing groceries with $24.25. (The Dominion Post)

MAN TRIES TO ROB BAR HE WAS DRINKING IN: An Oregon man was arrested after he allegedly tried to rob the same bar in which he had been drinking. The man had reportedly been drinking at MacEnzi's Bar and Grill and left around 10 PM before returning 25 minutes later with a beanie pulled over his face. He alledgedly grabbed a bag of money, pushed the bartender and ran out. The bartender recognized the man, who has been arrested. (AP)

Top 5 Favorite Concerts of 2009

As an avid show-goer, I've decided to create a Top 5 list of my favorite concerts this year. Here we go:

1. Blink 182, Fall Out Boy and Asher Roth

October 2009 - Verizon Wireless Amp., VA

Angie and I make the long and hard journey to...Virginia Beach for this show in October. Ok, it was a short trip if you leave out the 3 hours we sat in traffic. Nonetheless, we arrived just in time to see Mr. Roth rock the audience. This show was amazing because 2 of my favorite bands from all time played together. I thought I was never in my life going to get to see Blink 182 because they broke up a few years ago, but when they announced their reunion tour, you better believe I was the first one in line for a ticket. And we all know about my undying love for Fall Out Boy, even if they are on a hiatus due to Pete Wentz's fame problem. But, I digress.

2. Fall Out Boy with Hey Monday, Cobra Starship, All Time Low and 50 Cent

April 2009 - Merriweather Post Pavilion, MD & NC

I went to this show twice in April! Once in North Carolina with a good friend of mine from my childhood and again the next day with Miss Angie, our boss and my beloved. I have to explain my predicament. I saw this tour and was so excited because I hadn't seen Fall Out Boy in a hot minute. So when I saw the tour, you better believe I was going to be at one or more of the shows. I realized that there were two dates in which I was in driving distance so I made the (now un-smart) decision to attend both. I got up super early for the first show in NC and trekked down to SC (had to make a pit stop...out of the way - yes) to my friends and we embarked on the journey to NC for the show. It was incredible. We were able to get to the floor and rocked out like no bodies business. I ended up winning a screaming contest with the gentleman in front of me. He thought his excitement was louder than mine. I think not dear sir.

The next morning I had to get up super early (went to be at 2, woke up at 6) to drive back to Richmond, meet Angie and our fellow concert-goers and then drive another 3 hours to Maryland for the next show. Of course, I was able to figure out a way to get to the floor yet again and enjoyed some delicious rock...and rap - 50 cent was way better than I had imagined!

Conclusion - my love for Fall Out Boy is so strong, it took me across VA (multiple times), NC (2x), SC (2x), and Maryland. Next time, I'll just call up the boys and ask them for a ride.

3. Virgin Mobile FreeFest - Full Line-up including: Taking Back Sunday, Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Weezer, The Bravery, Blink 182 and more!

August 2009 - Merriweather Post Pavilion, MD

A. This show was free. Yes, free.

B. All the large names made it incredible. I never ever thought I would get to see some of these guys play and was completely stunned by their performance (IE: Weezer.)

C. Did I mention it was free?

4. Taking Back Sunday and Anberlin

June 2009 - The National, VA

For starters, the National is my favorite venue ever. Second, Anberlin is in my top 5 of favorite bands. Third, this was the first time I got to see Taking Back Sunday live and I have never see the National more packed than it was for this show! I was in rock heaven.

5. Paramore

October 2009 - Norva - Norfolk, VA

I can't say enough amazing things about Paramore. I love them so much! I love how they have a strong, independent woman as the lead singer, Miss Hayley Williams. She gets the crowds so excited. I have to admit, I sang every word to every song that night and came home with not an ounce of a voice.

So there's my list. Love it, hate it - leave us comments below about your favorite shows of 2009? Who'd you love, who'd you hate? Tell us!

Best Prank of the Holidays!

Working in an office with a lot of goof-balls, pranking comes naturally. From hiding lunches when someone leaves the lunch table to recycling and reusing shreds of paper as confetti in someones office, we all can appreciate a good prank.

This prank happened in Chicago and made me chuckle. It's just too perfect for the holiday season!

Apparently, one man took a trip out of town for the holiday's and came back to find everything in his apartment, and I mean everything, wrapped in gift wrap! I mean his toliet paper, couch, couch cushions, beverages, food, clock, bed, towels, and etc. was wrapped!

His friends decided to spend a full day pranking him by wrapping everything in his apartment and putting it back exactly where they found it. It took his friends 8 hours and 35 rolls of wrapping paper to wrap his entire apartment!

Have you pulled off any amazing pranks? What did you do? Tell us!

Avenged Sevenfold drummer dead at 28

Sad news to end out the year for metalcore enthusiasts... Avenged Sevenfold drummer James Owen "The Rev" Sullivan was found dead in his California home this morning. Reports say he passed from natural causes.

The band released this official statement:

"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you."

M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ

Not to dampen their sentimentt, but with a great friend passing was it really necessary to sign the statement in their stage names?

Regardless, Sullivan was a great drummer; such a shame at 28 years old.

Awkward Christmas Dinner Conversations

Merry Christmas! While I'm stoked about spending time with family and friends I haven't seen in a while, I am dreading the awkward Christmas dinner conversations. You know, the ones that start like:

"You've been married for a year already... when will you give me some grandchildren?"

"How's (insert the ex who hooked up with your best friend here) doing? They were so nice."

"So I'm guessing 'lose a few pounds' is on the resolution list for '10 for you?"

Here's how the conversation goes with my family at Christmas every year:

(insert relative name here): "Fisher, are you seeing anybody right now?"

Me: "No, not right now."

Relative: "How come?"

Me: "I don't know. I'm just busy with work."

Relative: "But you're a great catch. Are you trying to find someone?"

Me: Yes. I'm just very busy with work right now.

Relative: "But you are almost 30 and still single. You're a good looking man... why aren't you settled down yet?"

Me: *sigh* I don't know. But it's seriously okay.

Relative: "Are you sure you're not gay?"

So, to avoid that awkward encounter or one just as embarassing, here are a few "Didja Know" Christmas-related topic starters:

"Did you know in the Middle Ages, Boar's head used to be a traditional Christmas dish? The custom started when a bear attacked a university student and he saved himself by ramming a book of Aristotle's writings down its throat. The bear choked to death so the student cut off its head and brought it back to his college. "

"Did you know Christmas pudding should be stirred from east to west in order for it to be considered authentic?"

"Did you know that animal cracker boxes have a string handle because they were originally intended to hang on Christmas trees?"

"Did you know before settling on the name of Tiny Tim for his character in A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens considered naming him Little Larry, Puny Pete and Small Sam?"

"Did you know Christmas trees are edible? Many parts of pines, spruces, and firs can be eaten. The needles are a good source of vitamin C. Pine nuts, or pine cones, are also a good source of nutrition (don't try this with a fake tree)."

"Did you know Franklin Pierce was the first United States' president to decorate an official White House Christmas tree." (For some families you may just want to start with "Did you know Franklin Pierce was a President?")

MERRY CHRISTMAS, RVA!!
